Simply Self Store Ltd Bristol Reviews

If there was the facility to give a minus rating to this company I would, you see this company have no idea how to estimate the amount of goods that will go into a van, what size van will be needed and how long it will take to load and unload. We had a visit from their estimator who wandered around hands in pockets and made no notes, asked how many boxes were in the loft and then looked in a large shed at the rear, didn't bother checking the garage and gave the garden a cursory scan and left saying we would get an e-mail quote which duly arrived and as it was the best quote we decided to use them, that was our first mistake. Just to set our minds at ease we decided to as friends to help us remove some of the contents of the large shed which we did over the next few weeks before the move, it took four trips with a large transit van to move some of the stuff. Then the owner turned up on Thursday the day before our move, with another member of staff and as per the contract started to pack the kitchen, we had asked for six large boxes to pack more of our goods, they brought small boxes saying that this was all they had! This stopped us packing on that day, but we were told not to worry they would bring some on moving day. They then started packing and after they had done around 70% they left saying “Don't worry the guys will pack the rest in the morning” so we got on with what packing we could thinking we would be able to finish the next day. On the Friday we were expecting them to arrive at 8.00 am or earlier, they didn't they eventually turned up at 9.50 am saying they had a breakdown, this didn't explain why only one van a standard 3.5 ton van had not arrived. They looked at the kitchen and asked why it wasn't packed, we told them that they were meant to be doing it, which went down like a lead balloon, and they said “We weren't told we had to do this”. Then I asked where the extra boxes were to which the reply was “We weren't told about any boxes.” I went outside and looked in the back of one van and noticed what looked like a large air conditioning unit, I asked what it was, and was told it was a photocopier. So before the first item was loaded space was taken up by goods that were not ours. Then we were told that we would have to pay 70% upfront, this was not what the office had told us, we were told that we would pay when the move was complete, so as they did not bring the requested extra boxes and they were demanding money my wife, she set out to get both money and boxes, which put us back with the removal. I noticed that goods were not being loaded and said to one of the crew there's two stereo speakers that need to go on, his reply “I'm on boxes”! I went outside to see how things were progressing and found two of the crew chatting in front of the van, we had a 1.00 pm deadline to clear the property and the two vans were by now looking full with a large amount of goods still to be loaded. We were now some four hours behind with our deadline as it had taken my wife two hours to get into town get money and boxes and return. I went into the house to find these “removal men” struggling to manoeuvre a three seater settee through a door, I had to stop them before they damaged it and then I explained to them how to manoeuvre it without damage, I used to deliver very expensive furniture so I knew what I was talking about, sadly they didn't bother at the other end and scraped the leather on the wing back and as it's real leather it's going to cost a fair bit to repair, and they damaged one rather expensive speaker from a cinema system, as to why we haven't claimed on their insurance? More later. They were meant to dismantle the beds, they didn't until we pointed out that that was part of the deal, I dismantled the dinning room table even though they were meant to do that, they moaned about the packing the rest of the kitchen until we made them do it, then with another 7.5 ton van load still left behind, they loaded up their vans and then kept saying you will have to prioritise and you'll have to leave stuff behind! My wife said she would go and hire a 7.5 ton van which she has a licence to drive, but they refused saying it would need more than that. They left after roughly stuffing things into the garage and also loading the beds we were to be using that night into our motor caravan along with a lot of other items we would need, and after a look around we found two rather expensive saxophones and a stereo system left in a bedroom and other things they had left behind. The stereo we left in the garden shed thinking it would only be until Sunday. We arrived at our new home where we found a rather irate friend of ours who had had to tear these “removal men” off a strip as they had tried to force the leather settee through the front door, instead of the double doors at the rear. Boxes marked with specific rooms were dumped anywhere and things broken and damaged. Sunday morning at 9.00 am my wife rang to ask if anyone had arrived to pick up the remainder of the goods and was told no. So she rang around friends and asked if they would help us to get what was left. They went over and picked up what they could and came home. Then the following day I rang the company and asked for details of their insurance company to make a claim, and their reply was they wanted us to pay the other 30% of the bill, I asked why and they said their van went back at 7.30pm to pick up what was left and it had gone! I pointed out that our contract was a removal on Friday not over two days. He said said that they had under estimated the amount of goods, to which I replied that we had removed around four van loads so their estimate was way out. He said did we want seven vans for the price of two, to which I replied it was your estimate. We have as yet not had the name of their insurance company and we are still finding broken and damaged items and missing items. So my advice to you is stay away from this company and don't don't be fooled by a cheap quote and promises that are not kept.
