In 2013 I sent from New Zealand an important, old English carriage clock (c1840) to this company for restoration. On return in 2014, the clock looked extremely good and ran well for 3-4 weeks, after which I was unable to wind it even when it was fully run down. I received no useful feedback from the restorer when I reported this. A local clockmaker found the following: The failure to be able to wind the clock arose from an accumulation of old oil and dirt affecting the click within the fusee 'cone' of the going train; also, leakage of very old oil from one of the spring barrels suggested that these components hadn't even been cleaned. The internal work on the movement included at least one exuberant use of solder and several examples of what appeared to be 'superglue' joining components. This was out of keeping with the restorer's statement to me before I sent the clock: 'We only use original materials and techniques'. The only positive was that the company did an excellent job on the cosmetics of the case and dials.

Since the above problems were reported to the company in mid-2014, I have had no communication from them whatsoever, despite several queries seeking explanations and, recently, a request for a partial refund from the 985 pounds I paid for the work on the movement. The company claims 'All our services are fully guaranteed' but as the clock ran for only 3-4 weeks after restoration, rather than the 4-5 trouble-free years suggested when the clock was returned, I believe this was a fair request. This is probably the worst experience I have had with a trader when I have had a complaint about a product or service. On virtually every other occasion, the trader has been very cooperative in trying to sort out the issue. The proprietor of this company has merely ignored my queries/complaints and hasn't even communicated since I brought the problems to his attention. I’m afraid I cannot recommend this company for restoration of a valued or valuable clock.
