Booked an 08:30am MOT as I am an interim contractor with very little free time, and essentially my time is money.

Arrived at 08:30am on the dot and spent a couple of minutes showing one of the lads who worked at the garage how to use my cat 1 immobiliser on my car.

Walked into the office and was asked if I would leave the car or wait, I told them I would wait as I explained down the phone I had work to go to, I was wearing a full suit so this should have been quite obvious.
The gentleman at the desk informed me that my appointment has been slipped to 9:00 as I was late. I looked at the clock it was 08:34. I told the gentleman “I was here at 08:30 on the dot, I spent 3 minutes talking to one of your staff members and your telling me that I was late? I don’t do late.”
Another gentleman, obviously the owner of the garage started telling me that I was late by his iphone, and quite frankly started talking complete rubbish. Regardless, I kept composure and continued to stand my ground, I knew I wasn’t late and wasn’t willing to bow down to dictation. The gentleman had a terrible attitude, and regardless of me keeping my composure, he continued to be unreasonable. I tried to reason with the gentleman but quite frankly he did not care in the slightest.
The man’s wife also came out to throw her weight around, at this point I dismissed her as I was fed up of circular debate – she told me that this wasn’t the only garage in Watford and that I don’t have to use their company.

Not surprisingly, my immaculate car failed. The mot certificate cited that I failed under the grounds of “6.3.1b” – “Front registration plate insecure”. There were two advisories of insignificant nature.
I have read the MOT tester’s handbook, and point 6.3.1b clearly states that an MOT can be failed, if your registration plate is “so insecure, it is likely to fall off”. My car is 18 years old and the licence plate has not moved for over 10 of those years, there was a slight give in the plate admittedly, but not enough to come to the conclusion that it was “likely to fall off”, as it definitely wasn’t.

Knowing that my time is money, they then informed me that I could not have a retest for a further 2.5 hours.

I feel that this garage purposely wasted my time out of spite due to the disagreement had at the beginning of the transaction.
