I would avoid Caridon, and especially Property Manager Sid Miah like the plague. When I moved in to one of their properties it had lights that didn't work, excrement in the toilet, a blocked shower & kitchen & bathroom sink with a wobbly taps in, rats and an unstable kitchen work service next to a wobbly tap that sprayed water dangerously close to electrical points and appliances. Sid did little to sort these issues and it took three months to rectify some of these issues as well as complaints to his manager. Despite the council giving Caridon £3000 to rehouse me due to me being homeless, he exploited another £189 out of me. I caught a former tenant entering my flat with a full set of keys as Sid had neglected to change the locks and when I informed him of this he refused to do so unless I obtained him the number of a neighbour I barely knew. Eventually a friend of mine had to change the lock himself as Caridon took so long to rectify the situation. Despite the former tenant being known to the police as they had previously kicked his door down when he lived here as part of a raid, Sid failed to tell the police this, and lied by telling them that I had mental health problems such as a toilet talking to me and said that he had changed the locks when he hadn't. He also pretended that his manager didn't want to talk to me and then hung up when I tried to make another complaint about the matter. When I tried to send an email addressed to his manager, Sid intercepted it and replied himself. He also threatened to evict me unlawfully a couple of days before Christmas but fortunately I had the sense to seek legal advice. One of my neighbours has also had things go missing from his flat and tampered with but he's too scared to complain as he's seen how I've been treated. Sid also allowed the communal corridors of our building to be blocked with discarded furniture which was a fire hazard until the owner made him get them moved. He was also prepared to leave a 68 year old woman homeless for a weekend when she arrived as a new tenant at our place but wasn't given the right keys, and only came to sort the situation out when she cried and begged to him on the phone. Caridon said they would move me somewhere safer when I contacted the local press, the man from the council who had housed me with them, informed them that I have copies of my correspondence with Sid, that I'm going to be complaining to an ombudsman and began negotiating with the police about Sid's attempts to pervert the course of justice. Despite being told last week that there are properties available for me to view, I am now being told "The flats I mentioned were ones that we are still negotiating with landlords on and we haven’t tied them up yet it may take a few weeks to get you viewings." Fortunately I am wise enough to take these words with a pinch of salt as I know how fast paced estate agency is and in this age of emails and mobile phones can't see how it would take more than a day or two to negotiate with landlords. I will continue to seek justice until the situation is adequately rectified.
